The remarkable breadth and depth of resources available to our students readies them as chemists and chemical engineers to address society’s most urgent 21st-century issues. At the UC Berkeley physics department, the graduate students are active in pushing for a more diverse and inclusive department climate. I have also previously held the position of Vice President and the position of Outreach Coordinator. Berkeley Connect is a mentoring program within the physics department that is accepting undergraduate students at all levels. Our goals are to encourage women and minorities to study the physical sciences and to create a friendly and supportive environment in these departments for all students. The Society of Physics Students is a professional, national organization for all students interested in physics and cutting-edge research.
